Adam Afriyie, the MP for Windsor, has welcomed the National Lottery’s continuous investment in Windsor’s heritage since 1994 and has encouraged constituents to apply for grants to explore the legacy of the First World War.

In total, over £0.75m has been invested in 17 heritage projects in Windsor, from exploring local archaeology and restoring local parks and buildings to protecting wildlife and researching local history.

The Heritage Lottery Fund is currently running a competition for people in Windsor to apply for grants between £3,000 and £10,000 to undertake projects exploring the impact and legacy of the First World War beyond 1918. 

 

The MP for the Windsor constituency, Adam Afriyie welcomed the figures:

“One of the best things about Windsor is its incredibly rich history – in particular our long association with monarchy and military, with our 200 year association with the Household Cavalry Regiment.

“The First World War was devastating, yet it brought with it some welcome social and cultural changes including female suffrage and a new view of women in the workplace.

“The National Lottery helps us to pass on our heritage to the next generation and I would urge local residents to apply for these grants with innovative ideas for ways in which we can explore the impact of the First World War here in Windsor.”
