Windsor MP Welcomes Expansion to Mental Health Provision

Adam Afriyie, the MP for Windsor, has welcomed the government’s announcements that it will embark on one of the largest expansions of mental health services in Europe.

This includes recruiting 21,000 new mental health workers to properly integrate mental and physical health services and investing £1.3bn extra to treat an extra 1m people by 2021.

This is part of the Conservative’s manifesto promise to build parity of esteem between physical and mental healthcare and to tackle the burning injustice of too many people with mental health problems who don’t find enough help at hand.

The MP for the Windsor constituency, Adam Afriyie welcomed the figures:

“As Conservatives we want to address the historic imbalance between physical and mental health services, at a time when too many people have trouble accessing the mental health treatments.

“These measures are ambitious, but necessary. With more resources, wisely allocated we can begin to transform mental healthcare and those affected to avoid slipping through cracks.

“I welcome this comprehensive approach to mental health and I am confident that this will help to level the playing field for those with mental health challenges”
