Windsor MP Takes Government to Task Over Heathrow Expansion
Talking yesterday evening at the RBWM public meeting on Heathrow expansion, Windsor MP Adam Afriyie has warned the Government that the general public remain to be convinced that expansion is a good idea.
Speaking at Windsor Boys School, Adam Afriyie said:
“As a central Windsor resident, I know all too well that noisy aircraft already disturb people and can wreck a good night’s sleep. If runway alternation is removed and new flight paths are introduced then nobody will get any respite during the day.”
“The economic case has not been made and the issues about noise, transport and the environmental have not been resolved by the Government.”
“I will continue to fight against expansion on behalf of residents, as I have done for many years.”
Adam added:
“The Government lacks vision to see the alternatives. We can insist on the use of larger, quieter and more environmentally friendly aircraft sooner rather than later. We can develop a high speed rail link to the North to reduce the number of domestic flights. And we look at developing a coastal airport where noise would not be an issue.”
Adam also questioned the transparency of the Government’s consultation process:
“People have given their time and effort to respond. But the Government’s consultation is only about the technical aspects of how to expand Heathrow, rather than whether it should be expanded.”
