Everyone would benefit from a simpler tax system that is easier to understand and cheaper to administrate. A good first step would be a merge Employees’ National Insurance and Income Tax as I argue this morning in The Huffington Post.

No doubt, merging these two payments would be a difficult technical feat, but if this is something the Chancellor is strongly considering, I know he will enjoy widespread backing from Conservative MPs, activists and supporters.
