Windsor MP Writes to
Aviation Minister asking him to Admit Heathrow Noise
Plight
08-Oct-07, Press Release.
Adam Afriyie MP has called on
Aviation Minister, Jim Fitzpatrick MP, to release the
Government’s report into attitudes to noise from
aviation sources.
The report, commissioned by the
Department of Transport, reveals that over two and half
million people are likely to be affected by aircraft noise
from Heathrow airport, run by BAA. This is ten times higher
than previous estimates. Further, the report reveals the
Government’s method of measuring noise as “outdated.”
In a letter to the Aviation
Minister, Mr Afriyie today highlighted the need for an
up-to-date method of measuring aircraft noise.
Mr Afriyie said:
“We need a clear system of
measurement that reflects the reality of aircraft noise
rather than the picture the Government would wish to paint.”
Mr Afriyie added:
“As a central Windsor resident
I share, firsthand, the draining experience of being
disturbed by noisy aircraft, especially in the early hours.”

Notes to Editors
1.
Mr Afriyie has been an
active campaigner for noise reduction for many years, and
has pursued the issue both in parliament and as a member of
Project Heathrow Watch. Last spring, following pressure
from Mr Afriyie, his colleagues and the House of Lords, the
Government was forced to abandon plans to that would have
removed the current 16 flight limit at Heathrow under the
Civil Aviation Bill. |
