MP condemns
Government over Ascot Post Office closure
Wednesday,
15th October 2008. Press Release.
Mr Afriyie said:
“The Government chose to close post office branches to try
to save money
“But the procedure they chose discriminates against areas
like ours which have a large elderly population
“Older people often find it difficult to travel long
distances to post offices and it is a hard-hearted
Government that manipulates the closure programme to work
against older people in this way
“It would have been better to just tell the post office to
reduce costs, rather than force it to close 2,500 branches.
In this way a more flexible approach could have been taken
and fewer branches might have been closed”.

Notes to Editors:
Windsor MP Adam Afriyie has condemned the Government’s rules
for closing local Post Offices. This comes after the latest
refusal by Post Office Ltd to review their decision to close
South Ascot Post Office.
