MP visits Cancer Research UK and sees innovative research
firsthand
Wednesday, 11th March 2009. Press Release.
Windsor MP
Adam Afriyie toured Cancer Research UK’s flagship
laboratories recently to see how world class scientists are
working to beat the disease. Mr Afriyie visited the
charity’s London Research Institute in his role as Shadow
Minister for Science and Innovation.
Mr Afriyie met
with the Chief Executive of Cancer Research UK, Harpal Jumar,
along with the Director of LRI, Doctor Richard Treisman, to
discuss the research being undertaken and the range of work
carried out by the 550 staff and students.
Speaking at
the event Mr Afriyie said:
‘ This has
been a great opportunity to learn about the innovative
cancer research that is being carried out in London. It
highlights the vital link between science and it’s potential
to make a great impact for cancer patients in the future.
It is also
crucial that we continue to encourage our young people to
pursue science as a career. For without the work of
dedicated scientists and support staff, the advances made in
cancer treatment and services could not be achieved.’
Cancer
Research UK is the leading funder of Cancer Research in the
United Kingdom. The charity carries out work on all aspects
of cancer in more than 35 towns and cities across the
country.
