Save our Fire
Station - Again!
02-Mar-07, Windsor Express
Article.
The future of Windsor’s Fire Station has recently
opened for consultation and, like many other Windsor
residents, I visited the consultation website.
It does seem a little suspicious that the question
relating to Windsor appears to deliberately highlight and
emphasise the relatively low number of night time calls to
Windsor. It also suggests that that a change from full time
24-hour cover to 12-hour cover - with night cover from
Slough or retained fire-fighters - will enable “enhancements
to be made in areas where improvement is needed.” The
questionnaire therefore appears to be biased in favour of
reducing the level of cover we currently enjoy.
I am determined that we maintain the current level of
cover which not only protects residents at home, but also
visitors to the town, the Castle and Legoland, as well as
the many valued and historic buildings in Windsor.
Having worked hard campaigning alongside local
councillors, the Windsor Express and local residents, I am
encouraged that there is a united front in support of our
local fire service in Windsor and I am hopeful that our
joint efforts will prove fruitful in saving our local
service. I certainly commend the work of councillors of all
political persuasions because there are few issues over
which we can unite in local politics, and I am delighted
that this is one of them!
I urge residents to contact their local councillors or
visit www.rbfrs.co.uk to make their views known. Let’s
continue to work together to save our fire station!. |
