Wow! Even I have been surprised by the scale of
the local election result in Windsor last week!
We were fortunate to be able to field so many
capable, energetic and talented candidates
across the Borough and it was great to see so
many of them elected.
I wish to thank the residents of the Royal
Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and in
particular, those who moved on from supporting
the LibDems or Labour in the past, but felt able
to support Conservative candidates this time.
Having spoken to so many residents on the
doorsteps, it became clear that people were
ready for a change. It seemed to be sparked
largely by the spiralling LibDem council tax
demands and problems with local residents’
parking. But I do sense that it was also due to
a recognition that Conservative councillors had
the best interests of residents and the local
environment at heart.
The new Conservative council certainly has an
exciting and ambitious manifesto. There is no
doubt that after the hard work of seeking
election, the real hard work starts now.
From my own work as your MP, I have learnt that
public office requires hard work, dedication
and, often, very long hours. But it is also a
privilege to be trusted to serve and I know that
each of our newly elected councillors will be
aware of the great responsibility they have now
been given by residents.
I urge them to stay in touch with residents and
to work tirelessly to deliver value for money
for council tax payers.
