This
week, local residents have gone to the polls to
decide who should run the Royal Borough of Windsor
and Maidenhead.
Although
at the time of writing I do not know the result, I
do hope that the Conservatives will be returned
locally so that people get better value for money
from their council.
Local
Conservative candidates have made a clear commitment
to improve parking conditions for residents. They
have also made it clear that they will retain the
weekly refuse collection which we enjoy and limit
council tax rises, whilst getter betting value for
money from the money raised.
Conversely, the LibDems, who have controlled Windsor
for the past 4 years, prioritised a costly
refurbishment of Maidenhead Town Hall (to the
detriment of local public services), increased
council tax by almost 25% and failed to solve the
parking problems for residents which they were
elected to deal with.
Form what
I hear on the doorsteps, it has been time for a
change at the Town Hall for quite a while. This
Thursday it will be local residents who make up
their minds whether they want to give the LibDems
another chance or if they want to allow Conservative
councillors to deliver a better Borough.
Whatever
the outcome, I am delighted that local Conservatives
have been able to field a strong team of very able,
energetic and committed candidates who, if elected,
would direct their efforts to serving local
residents well. So I want to thank them for their
hard work over the last year as activists and during
the campaign as candidates.
I wait
with bated breath!
