Conservatives to
increase parking in Windsor
20-Apr-07, Windsor Express
Article.
It appears, somewhat surprisingly, that
the Conservatives have aroused the ire of the Libdems in
Windsor with the proposal to remove the trivial and
annoying charges for short term meter parking for local
people.
These annoying charges are a disadvantage to retailers
and shoppers alike - so much so that the Libdem Leader
thinks over 100,000 people will descend onto local
streets if the 10p charge disappears!
Perhaps one of the biggest irritations for residents is
when they arrive home to find their 'Residents Only'
parking bay taken by an inconsiderate outsider who has
no right to be there. So we will also be making
improvements to enforcement for residents in the area -
a service which is already paid for but seldom
delivered.
One of our key plans to help local shoppers was to build
extra spaces in a new car park - but this was ditched by
the Libdems in favour of their pet projects to spend
Windsor's money at Maidenhead Town Hall and Council
offices.
The Conservatives will seek to increase on-street
parking in Windsor by reviewing yellow lines, seeking
additional off-street parking and ensuring local
shoppers and retailers benefit from the no-cost short
term pledge.
Alarmingly the LibDems have removed 107 off-street
parking spaces, whilst increasing parking fines and
charges way above inflation - much like the Council Tax
and the Borough's £50 million plus debt.
With those disappearing spaces, the large rises in
Council Tax and the concentration of Windsor's money
spent in Maidenhead it would surely be fair to ask, what
have local people done to deserve the Libdems?
It is no wonder Conservatives are receiving a warm
welcome on the doorsteps.
