Christmas
Reflections
15-Dec-06, Windsor Express
Article.
It seems inevitable that, as Christmas approaches
and we all contemplate some much needed rest and
spending some time with our families and friends, we
reflect upon the year’s highs and lows.
For me the high point of the year was debating the Civil
Aviation Bill where Conservatives in both the House of
Commons and the House of Lords forced the Government to keep
the cap on flight numbers in place. As Windsor residents, we
all know what it feels like to be rudely awoken by noisy
planes at night, and whilst I continue to campaign for a
reduction in night flights, it was a relief that the
Government were forced at least to keep the existing limit
on the flights which disturb our peace!
With around 500 pieces of correspondence arriving on my
desk each week, it is quite a task to keep the paper
mountain in check, but I am delighted that so many residents
write to me and take part in important local and national
debates – it is certainly a sign of the health of our
democracy.
It is a great privilege to serve as the Member of
Parliament for our vibrant and beautiful constituency and I
would like to wish you all the very best for Christmas and
the New Year. |
I
believe
People are happier
when making their own decisions.
Business is the
engine of the economy that generates our jobs, incomes and
taxes.
Government should
not interfere in our lives beyond protecting and defending
us.
